Six weeks of shoppers spending more. The World Cup is for every brand.

World-Cup-2026

Less than two months separates us from the opening whistle of the FIFA World Cup 2026. For FMCG brands that haven’t started planning, the window is closing fast.

A summer unlike any other

The FIFA World Cup kicks off on 11 June in North America, with the final on 19 July. England go in as one of the favourites, and Scotland are at their first World Cup since 1998. With 48 teams competing across 103 games, this is the largest World Cup in history – and the most opportunity-rich seasonal activation window outside Christmas.

For six weeks, millions of UK households will be more engaged, more social and spending more across the board. That uplift isn’t limited to a handful of categories – it flows across grocery, creating a heightened shopper environment that every FMCG brand can tap into.

According to YouGov’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Global Brand Handbook:

42% of global adults say they are likely to follow the FIFA World Cup 2026

48% of likely followers say a brand’s World Cup involvement makes them feel more positively toward it

23% have previously purchased or tried a brand for the first time as a direct result of its tournament association

For official sponsors, those numbers represent a significant commercial advantage. But you don’t need a sponsorship deal to get in on the action.

The opportunity isn’t about badging your product with a football. It’s about being present and compelling at the moment shoppers are already in a buying mood — whatever category you’re in. Elevated footfall, more socialising occasions, more at-home viewing events — all of it creates incremental purchase opportunities right across the store.

And savi’s own 2025 redemption data shows just how strong those moments can be:

But the clock is ticking

Seasonal campaigns have a hard deadline — and a fully integrated mobile coupon campaign requires brief, build, test, compliance sign-off and retail distribution. Done properly, that pipeline takes six to eight weeks minimum. If you’re not planning now, you’re already too late.

They also connect digital engagement to physical purchase – giving brands a full picture of the journey from first impression to till scan, not just a redemption number.

In Practice: Proof It Works

savi’s recent work with Müller during the 2025 Christmas season is a direct blueprint for summer 2026. No sponsorship deal. No exclusive rights. Just a brilliant seasonal mechanic built around the mood of the moment.

The team created an “Ad-to-Aisle” experience: a browser-based skill game — Gingerbread Run — leading to an instant-win digital scratchcard with tiered prizes and 10,261 in-store redeemable coupons. No app download required.

602,786 gameplay sessions from 124,237 unique users

Average active engagement: 1 minute 51 seconds per user

100% of available coupons were claimed

The data also revealed a ‘Lovealty’ effect: the average player returned nearly five times – not because they had to, but because the experience was worth coming back to.

Neil Sharp, Senior Shopper Manager at Müller: “We drove shoppers to fixture, delivered surprise and delight, and boosted ROS. We’re now scaling the gamified model across brands in 2026.”

The Window Is Open. For Now.

Six weeks of elevated shopper engagement, increased footfall and category uplift across the board — but only for brands whose campaigns are already live. Official sponsor or not, whatever category you’re in, the opportunity is the same: shoppers will be spending more this summer. The question is whether your brand is there to meet them..
